Purpose:

At its meeting on 6 July 2022 the Cabinet approved the Council’s Whistleblowing Policy (FIN/574 refers) for adoption and publication and delegated authority to the Head of Corporate Finance (in consultation with the Leader) to review and make minor amendments to the Policy as further changes to legislation and statutory guidance are introduced.  In line with that delegation the Head of Corporate Finance, in consultation with the Leader, will make the following minor to keep this policy up to date

Paragraphs 23 & 28. Rename the charity ‘Public Concern at Work’ to ‘Protect’.

Paragraphs 7,23 and 28. Change ‘in good faith’ to ‘in the public interest’.

The requirement is now that an employee must make a protected disclosure in the public interest rather than in good faith.

Decision:

That the following minor amendments to the Whistleblowing Policy be made:

 

·        Paragraphs 23 & 28. Rename the charity ‘Public Concern at Work’ to ‘Protect’.

·        Paragraphs 7,23 and 28. Change ‘in good faith’ to ‘in the public interest’.

·        The requirement is now that an employee must make a protected disclosure in the public interest rather than in good faith.

 

Generic Delegation 7 was used to enact this amendment and the decision was taken following consultation with the Leader of the Council.
