Voting and coronavirus safety measures
In order to vote, your name needs to be included on the Register of
Electors. Find out about
registering to vote and
how to cast your
vote. Your can vote at a polling station, by post or by proxy.
Safety measures will be in place at polling places. We will
comply with UK Government coronavirus guidelines to make sure
it’s safe for you to vote in person.
Polling stations will look different, be busier than normal and
it may take more time than usual to vote in person. To keep
everyone safe and to meet coronavirus rules:
- There may be a change of location for your local polling
station (please check your poll card)
- You may have to wait in a socially distanced queue outside the
building
- One-way systems will operate in the building
- Staff will be wearing masks and face shields
- You’ll need to wear a face covering (unless you have a
medical exemption) and sanitise your hands
- You’ll be encouraged to bring your own pen or pencil
- Polling booths, ballot boxes and pencils will be regularly
sanitised.
Plan how you will vote
Polling station
Please check your poll card as your polling station might have
changed since you last voted and remember to bring your mask and a
pen or pencil. Polling places are usually busier early in the
morning and after school so you may want to go at a different time
when it’s likely to be quieter.
Postal voting
You may prefer your ballot papers to be posted to you, so you
don’t need to go to a polling station to vote. If you are not
already registered for a postal vote you can
vote by post.
The deadline for applying for a postal
vote at these elections is 20 April 2021 at 5pm.
You may appoint someone to vote on your behalf by completing can
an application to vote by proxy.
The person you appoint as proxy must be registered to vote, be
eligible to vote in these elections, and able to visit the polling
station at which you would normally go to vote. This person can
only vote as proxy for up to two voters unless they are close
relations of the voters.
