Tilgate park nature reserve is supposed to be just that, a safe place for animals to live and a good place to take children to learn about yhe animals.
However in recent years the park has apparently become anything but that. With fisherman reducing already low fish stocks and reports of deer hunters with crossbows operating in tilgate forest.
After being physically threatened by fishermen at tilgate lake who assert that the lake is their domain and not for my exercise I began researching incidents involving fisherman/hunters and their paraphernalia.
In doing so I have discovered that numerous parents have had incidents where their children have found hooks, lures and nets discarded beside the lake just waiting for a child to hurt themselves.
I have also discovered many incidents of animals being maimed and even killed by discarded equipment. Including the sad case of a swan being garroted and killed by discarded fishing line last march.

It is now time for local residents to take back the park and once again make it a safe place for children to visit and animals to live.
