Crawley Retail, Commercial Leisure and Town Centre Neighbourhood Needs Assessment

To feed into the Local Plan Review, the council has commissioned Nexus Planning to prepare a Retail, Commercial Leisure and Town Centre Neighbourhood Needs Assessment.

This will help us to understand the need for new retail, restaurants, hotels, and other commercial leisure floorspace over the next 15 years. It will also help us to better understand the demand for different facilities and services that are needed to support the growing town centre residential population.

As part of the work, Nexus Planning will be commissioning NEMS market research to undertake a telephone survey, which will contact a sample of Crawley residents as well as those in the wider area. This will enable the consultants to understand shopping demands, and the demands for other facilities and services. The market research will involve 1,200 surveys in total, including around 200 in Crawley, so it will be a relatively small proportion of residents that receives a call. Separately, the market research company will be undertaking a doorstep survey of around 100 residents in Crawley town centre – again this is to understand the type of facilities and services that residents feel are needed.

We anticipate that the telephone surveys will start towards the end of this week, possibly early next week.

The contact centre has been informed, and Communications will also raise awareness on social media, but we wanted make councillors aware in case you receive any questions from the public.

If you have any questions, please contact Anthony Masson, Senior Planning Office on 01293 438761.
