The High Weald AONB Management Plan 2019-2024 was agreed by the Joint Advisory Committee on 29th November 2018. It was agreed by the High Weald AONB Partnership on behalf of 15 local authorities with land in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), of which Crawley is one, as required under Section 89 of the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000. The Partnership requests that the council formally adopts it according to our procedures by 31st March 2019. The Management Plan was originally published in 2004 as a 20-year strategy, and is reviewed every five years. While the character components and management plan objectives remain broadly the same, this review has reflected the potential impact of Brexit on agri-environmental policy and the significant increase in development pressure on the AONB since the last review. Once adopted, this becomes the council's 'policy for the management of the area and for the carrying out of their functions in relation to it'. Land within Crawley's administrative boundaries which fall within the High Weald AONB form a small proportion of the borough, to the south of the A264, at Pease Pottage.
